ADI Part 1 Theory Test Preparation

Patient, DVSA-approved local instructors who know your local test routes inside out – for complete beginners and nervous drivers alike.

The ADI Part 1 test is the first step to becoming a driving instructor – a theory and hazard perception test covering the deeper knowledge you'll need to teach. Here's an overview, and how our ORDIT grade-6 training prepares you.

The multiple-choice section

You answer 100 questions split across four bands: road procedure; traffic signs and signals, car control, pedestrians and mechanical knowledge; driving test, disabilities and the law; and publications and instructional techniques. You need at least 85 out of 100 overall, with a minimum in each band.

Hazard perception

As with the learner test, you'll watch clips and respond to developing hazards – but to a higher standard. Both sections must be passed to move on to Part 2 (your own driving) and Part 3 (your ability to teach).

Train with an ORDIT grade-6 trainer

Our instructor trainer, David Evans, holds the highest level of ORDIT registration, and prepares you thoroughly for all three parts on a flexible Pay As You Go basis. You can see the official steps and the current fee on GOV.UK.
